Chairul Tanjung already started his business since he was in college at the faculty of dentistry, University of Indonesia (UI). In his first year in college, he sold everything, ranging from accessories, stickers, keychains, textbooks, and so on, to his student friends. Until then he got the idea when he crossed the stairs to the second floor in his campus. Under the stairs there is an empty space unused, a.k.a dead space. He then thought: the empty space was narrow, but that does not mean not to be used at all.

Chairul Tanjung (born Jakarta, June 16, 1962) is the owner and chairman of CT Corporation (previously known as the Para Group), one of biggest holding company in Indonesia. Its Business fields are finance, properties, and multimedia. The Warta Ekonomi Magazine awarded Chairul Tanjung as one of the most influential figures in business in the year of 2005. At December 2009, Forbes awarded him as the 13th richest people in Indonesia, with net assets worth US$ 990 million.
