Chairul Tanjung (born Jakarta, June 16, 1962) is the owner and chairman of CT Corporation (previously known as the Para Group), one of biggest holding company in Indonesia. Its Business fields are finance, properties, and multimedia. The Warta Ekonomi Magazine awarded Chairul Tanjung as one of the most influential figures in business in the year of 2005. At December 2009, Forbes awarded him as the 13th richest people in Indonesia, with net assets worth US$ 990 million.
Unlike other Indonesian rich businessman who usually only continue his or her company as legacy from their parents, Chairul establish his company by himself. Now, one of his biggest asset in the financial sector is Bank Mega, one of the top banks in Indonesia, with total assets reached Rp 34.9 trillion (about US$ 3.7 billion) as of september 2009.
In the property business, his main asset is Bandung Supermal, one of the biggest mall in Bandung, West Java, with total area about 3 hectares.
Chairul has started to enter the media business with establish the Trans Corp at 1998, a parent company of Trans TV, Trans 7, and other media companies. Trans TV has went on air since 2002.
Chairul also has hundreds of companies in various fields such as retail, fashion & lifestyle, resources, travel & transportation service, cafe chain, and so on.
The total assets of Para Group is estimated to reach US$ 2 billion. Chairul claimed will triple it in the next year with acquisitions, mainly in the fields of natural resources, financial and media.
In addition to serving as Commissioner of the Para Group, Chairul Tanjung is also active in the world of sports. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Badminton Association of Indonesia (PB PBSI). Chairul now spend most of his time to establish the Chairul Tanjung Foundation, a social foundation to help the poors.
